Oscar Party 2014

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It’s time for the Oscars!!! We are excited for our favorite awards show of the season and it’s the perfect excuse for a party. Most Oscar parties will focus on black, white, gold, and perhaps some touches of red, with an Art Deco vibe. However, we love the unexpected!

Instead of a black and white throwback to Old Hollywood, choose a color palate that is fun and playful by taking inspiration from confetti. Set the scene with a fun piece of décor such as colorful tissue garland. Adding onto the bright colors, we love the new popcorn dish by powerhouse design duo, Courtney and Robert Novogratz, with its perfect pops of color. Be sure to upgrade that popcorn with one of these fun recipes. Or, spice up the movie theater classic by trying out one of our favorite simple popcorn tricks: add truffle salt for a savory touch or Hot Tamales for a sweetly cinnamon spin.

No Oscar party would be complete without some bubbly, but why not garnish your champagne with rock candy? If you want to take your cocktailing to the next level, we love this fun twist on Jell-O shots.

Don’t forget to print out your 2014 Oscar ballot and while you’re there, check out the great tutorial for a confetti mani to complete your Oscar party hostess look. We can’t wait to see what looks our favorite stars will be rocking and who will take home those prized golden statues!

xoxo

Go Blackhawks!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While we don't normally get too involved with sports on a daily basis, we would never miss a Chicago team in the playoffs!  You can bet that we will definitely be watching tonight's Blackhawk's game- although we will probably be viewing while sipping a fabulous Bliss-inspired cocktail rather than a beer!   A few months back, one of our favorite weddings blogs put together a fabulously simple, but fun inspiration shoot for a Super Bowl party- check out all the images here.   Wouldn't it be fun to host a fancy little Blackhawks viewing party inspired by the ideas in SMP's super bowl shoot?!? We especially love the mini margarita mix favors! Also, we just about died laughing at this spirited Blackhawk loving wedding party?!?

The Bliss Studio

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While there were plenty of sneak peeks of our new studio space in the photos from our Kiki Party, we thought it would be fun to share some proper photos of the space when it isn't in party mode! After a long search for the perfect space, we finally found this gem right around the corner from some of the best restaurants and shopping in Wicker Park/Bucktown. With a little inspiration, a few coats of paint and tearing down a couple walls this space started transforming into the Bliss Weddings & Events Studio back in early December.

Renny scoured our favorite antique stores, Jayson Home & Garden, and One Kings Lane to find the perfect furniture and accessories to compliment the color story of navy, white, kelly green, fuchsia pink, and metallic gold.

Our favorite parts of the studio include the fabulous silver and kelly green metallic palm leaf wallpaper in the powder room, the comfy chic seating area and of course- the bar cart set against fabulous metallic snakeskin wallpaper!!

Thank you to Studio ThisIs for the great pics!

Sprinkle Eggs

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Happy Easter from all of us at Bliss. We will be enjoying chocolate bunnies, poppy seed muffins, Renny's family cheese grits, deviled eggs (mmmmmm) and honey baked ham.  Mostly we will enjoy time with family and friends and will love watching the kids go on an Egg hunt in their Easter dresses and suits.

We will be hiding these eggs this year.  Who can pass up sprinkle eggs?  Maybe we will find one or two.  The kids can't have all the fun!

Here is the how to from Studio DIY

The Orchid. This delicate, exotic plant represents beauty, love, luxury and strength. We are loving these spaces by Lonny Magazine that get an extra little boost of beauty through an orchid or two. With an estimate of 25,000 varieties, an orchid is a great gift or finishing touch to any room!

The 2012 Olympic Games

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

You know we love a good theme party. Especially, when the chance to celebrate comes along only once every four years. The 2012 Olympic's Opening Ceremony begins tomorrow at 6:30pm and we are already excited to suck up the hat hair from our berets and cheer on all the athletes. Whether your attending or hosting a party we've got your Olympic look all planned out for you! Throwing a party? The Today Show has got you covered with how to throw an Olympic theme party!  Go Team USA!!

[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="11116" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]

What you will need to steal the show: Women- The most talked about piece of this year's Olympic Collection, a beret. A navy blazer. A red, white and blue scarf (pick one color if too hard to find). A white skirt, socks and tennies! Add in anything with a pony on it for extra points! Men- Man up with a beret. A white collared shirt, an all American tie, preppy belt, and khakis. Again, work in the pony anywhere you can! Get a little creative with sporting metallic nails ladies, preferably gold of course! Butter London has an adorable limited edition right now!

God Save the Queen

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Hip, Hip, Hooray! The Diamond Jubilee is this weekend marking 60 years of the Queen's reign. After celebrating the Silver and Gold Jubilee, all eye's are on London once again as the UK celebrates the much anticipated Diamond Jubilee. The Queen raise the stakes as she attends the Investec Derby at the Epsom Downs tomorrow. Sunday, marks The Big Jubilee Lunch where people all over the country pour into the streets for their one-day-get-together with neighbors, while the Queen leads up to one thousand boats in the Thames river pageant. The Diamond Jubilee Concert is held on Monday night, broadcasted by BBC with some of music's biggest names. Jubliee Beacons will be lit that night as well, with the Queen lighting the national beacon. And it wouldn't be a royal gathering without a procession, the service of Thanksgiving and carriage procession will be held on Tuesday.

That's a lot of tea and dainty sandwiches for those on this side of the pond! Happy jubilaying!

Friday Floral

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

It’s impossible not to notice all the gorgeous blooms throughout the city right now. I took a stroll through Lincoln Park and had to share all the flowers that had me oohing and ahhing! From people's front steps to the ornate gardens of all the parks in the area, these blooms are one of the many aspects that make summer in Chicago the best!  Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="11124" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]

I also picked up some Peonies for Renny from Larkspur in Bucktown. The owner grows all her flowers on a 23-acre farm in Michigan with more than 84 peony bushes! Highly recommend picking up a bundle or two from them while you can!

Succulents! Technically, a succulent is any plant that carries water in it's stem, roots, or leaves allowing the plant to go without water for long periods of time. Perfect for the green thumb beginner, someone who travels a lot, or that absent minded person that we all know and love. Succulents can convey a more modern tone and can also play well into the rustic look that so many love! The soft greens and greys of succulents can be paired with almost any color palette from neutrals to brights...A versatile little plant!

Our Easter Table

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

What a weekend!! Our Easter table was overflowing with baskets, chocolates, flowers (tulips and hydrangeas), touches of Peter Rabbit here and there (a childhood favorite),  sugared eggs, crepe paper wrapped gifts for the kids and most importantly our friends and family. On Friday, we  threw a neighborhood party for the kids to dye eggs.  They sat in adorable Anthropologie Farmer's Market Baskets throughout the Dining table. Saturday morning was the Egg hunt for the kids in the local park.  We stuffed and hid over 300 eggs with candy and games.  The kids loved every minute. Sunday afternoon we clinked our mimosas together and began our meal consisting of amazing southern cheese grits (see recipe below), the must-have traditional honey baked ham, grilled asparagus, cranberry poppy seed muffins, and a jello salad with strawberries, bananas, blueberries and pecans. We topped it all off with everyone's favorite, homemade New York cheesecake! We hope you all a wonderful Easter weekend as well! On to the next holiday!
