Real Wedding Teaser - Inspiration Board

One of our favorite clients of all time was married this past fall.

The wedding ceremony took place at the super-charming St. Chrysostom’s church, nestled on a residential street in the Gold Coast.  And the reception?  Bliss fave - Chicago History Museum.

JEH had a personal style meant for us.  Layers of J. Crew and accents of Kate Spade – modern updates of classic styles.  When she said she was toying with a color palette of Navy, Fuchsia, Kelly Green and Glittery Gold we thought we would die!

We would be honoured to help bring THAT vision to life!

As a little teaser, we would like to share the inspiration board we created in the early stages of our planning process.  This visual, conceptual tool was used as inspiration for everything from attire to stationary to florals and linens.

Stay tuned to see how the inspiration board came to life this past October!

Real Wedding & One Heck of a Year!

It was one year ago this week that a favorite Bliss Client married the man of her dreams (truly – they are mad about one another!).

It was a beautiful winter - not exactly wintry - wedding.  And since their big day, Maggie and Tony have already been blessed with a (ridiculously gorgeous) baby girl, Avery.  Because of this, I thought I’d share a few photos from the most glamorous day of their lives.

Maggie and her gaggle of girls dressed at the Ritz Carlton Chicago (also the location of the reception).  Everyone wore coordinating monogrammed button-downs, gifted by the bride, as a comfortable and practical way to relax during the hours of hair and make-up!

Maggie’s beautiful custom dress was designed in collaboration with Mira Couture and featured the bride’s new monogram embroidered in blue.

The ceremony was held at Old St. Pat’s (the oldest standing church in the City – it survived the Chicago fire!) and could easily accommodate the couple’s 300+ besties. The chalice that was used for communion is a special family heirloom given to the bride’s grandparents in Ireland.

The bride wore her great grandmother’s dreamy mink stole to ward off the January breezes.

As the cocktail hour came to an end, The Shannon Rovers lead guests to the ballroom for dinner with a heck-of-a-dramatic parade of drums and bagpipes.

The muted palette of creams, champagnes and mixed metallics provided the perfect wintry setting for Maggie, Tony and their guests.  A combination of linens were used alternately around the room:  rose gold sequins, silver silks as well as silver sequins.  Icy acrylic chairs allowed the special linens do all the talking.

Floral and décor was designed by our very own Jesse Deckard (back in his Event Creative Days).  Going for a snowy-mounded effect, Jesse used monofloral bundles and clouds of gypsophelia (ok, ok, babies breath), Dutch hydrangea and velvety dusty miller foliage.  He also used various crystal and metallic containers and votive cups paired with raw, natural peeling birch bark trunks.

The couple danced to Keith Urban’s You’re Everything, performed by Larry King Orchestra.   Lifesize birch trees were strung with crystals and suspended candles and cornered off the (massive) dance floor (that was packed in mere moments!)

The evening was filled with some seriously sentimental touches ....A truly beautiful and heart-melting toast by the brides other –and original- favorite man: her father, as well as a surprise toast given by the bride’s 27 cousins!

And although Maggie and Tony had visions of fluffy snowflakes creating a swirling snow-globe setting for their January winter wedding, Mother Nature keeps us Chicagoans on our toes and, instead, delivered a few days of unexpected warmth leading up to their celebration.  Instead of snow-boots, the couple’s most necessary accessory ended up being the oversized umbrellas that allowed them to sneak out of their reception for just a few kisses under the twinkling streetlights of Michigan Avenue.

I was so truly and completely honoured to have been a part of this special couple’s planning journey – and I so appreciated witnessing the love, admiration and adoration among their close-knit families as well as one another.  Bliss wishes them the happiest of anniversaries!

Xx Kara

Real Wedding: Meghan + Steve

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Meghan & Steve are such a fun and laid-back couple to be around that planning their wedding was a total joy!  When they came to us, they weren’t sure exactly what they wanted for their big day other than great food, beautiful décor and an abundance of personal touches.  When we decided on the Redfield Estate in Glenview for their ceremony and reception, we just knew the gorgeous lush grounds would be the perfect fit for an intimate celebration with both romantic and rustic touches. Even though their ceremony had to be moved indoors at the last minute due to weather, Meghan & Steve remained happy and telling jokes the whole time.  The indoor space for the ceremony turned out to be a beautifully intimate space which we covered in plenty of organic greenery and garland to bring the outdoors in.  Thankfully the weather cleared and guests moved to the courtyard for cocktails where they picked up escort cards placed on individual stems of craspedia set up in a bed of green moss.

Working with a color scheme of soft grey, mustard yellow and clean white, Fleur created laid back florals in a mix of vintage milk glass and turquoise glass placed on grey washed farm tables.   Timeless elegance was added to the tablescape with luxe crystal cut chargers, lace table runners and etched glass stemware.

After a delicious dinner, guests danced the night away taking breaks to snack from the abundant cheese bar or the sprawling sweets table adorned with several types of cake and an array of mini sweets all displayed on vintage cake pedestals.  As a late night surprise for the groom, a custom cigar roller accompanied a cigar & whiskey bar!

Real Wedding: Kristin & Ted

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Renny had the pleasure of planning a wedding this past August for an adorable duo, Kristin and Ted. After saying their I Do’s at the St. James Cathedral, their beyond stunning reception took place at the historical Drake Hotel. Positioned right along Lake Michigan, The Drake Hotel was the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous reception that had hints of a preppy, nautical vibe (not to mention, Ted proposed to Kristin outside the Drake under the gazebo). The décor centered around a classic navy and pink palette with stunning pops of gold as seen through the flowers by Cornelia McNamara, while the table numbers were street names of Chicago that had personal meaning to both Kristin & Ted. The cake was by a local bakery on Oak Street, Sarah’s Candies, and was positioned under the couple’s wedding monogram that hung above the head table. Olivia Leigh Photographie was there to capture all the special moments, we had a hard time choosing them for our blog! Congrats Kristin & Ted!

Succulents! Technically, a succulent is any plant that carries water in it's stem, roots, or leaves allowing the plant to go without water for long periods of time. Perfect for the green thumb beginner, someone who travels a lot, or that absent minded person that we all know and love. Succulents can convey a more modern tone and can also play well into the rustic look that so many love! The soft greens and greys of succulents can be paired with almost any color palette from neutrals to brights...A versatile little plant!

Dilly Lily, the charming floral boutique in Lincoln Park, is well ahead of this succulent trend. They currently have all sizes and shapes of different succulents and tons of fancy, bright little pots to keep them in! Hostess gift anyone??

Real Wedding: Danielle & Eric

With the gorgeous weather Chicago had this past weekend we wanted to feature this outside wedding of past clients that we adored, Danielle & Eric. A wonderful list of vendors helped to make this backyard tent wedding at a Private Residence in Evanston a complete success. The bright floral arrangements were done by Event Creative, while Olivia Leigh Photographie captured all the moments of their big day. Guests sat comfortably at farm style tables and ate a wonderful meal by Food for Thought Catering. Danielle wore a fabulous gown by Carolina Herrera and was careful not to get any icing on it from her Sweet Mandy B's Cupcakes! We couldn't have had more fun planning this rustic-glam celebration off of the gorgeous shore of Lake Michigan. Thank you to everyone involved!

Feature: Erin & Derrick

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hello Friends - Please be sure and pick up the latest isssue of CS Brides - Spring/Summer 09.  A wonderful wedding of mine was featured under "Scene Chicago Weddings".  One of my absolute favorite weddings.  Erin & Derrick were so blissfully happy, incredibly sweet, giving, grateful, fun, love life and LOVE color :)  We will be friends for a long time.  The wedding theme was "Vintage Indian".  The colors were rich berries, eggplant, indigo blue and whites.

The Wedding ceremony was held in Glenview at a gorgeous little white chapel where the bride's parents were married.  It looked like something out of a magazine.  There were these amazing huge oak trees.  Most of the time guests would enter off the parking lot (boring), but i wanted guests to walk through those amazing oak trees and up the courtyard.  We asked the church to fix a couple of the bricks in the courtyard since most people do not use this path, which they did happily.  We hung large signs from long strands of ribbons in plums and pinks from the trees.  The first sign directing guests from the parking lot said, "Erin + Derrick" with an arrow pointing towards the tree path.  The second sign said " Almost Married"  with an arrow pointing towards the courtyard.  The last sign was hung on the back of the getaway car and said, "Just Married".  So fun!!!

After the ceremony, guests traveled to the Glen Club where they were greeted by a large white tent on the patio of the golf course for the cocktail hour.  Sixty vintage gold embroideered parasols in berries and blues hung above.  The tables were dressed in ivory linens and set with antique gold lanterns.  The place card table was draped in a sheet of wheat grass and rich berry linen.

Guest then entered the ballroom where the tables were draped in eggplant linens and set with mahogany chiavari chairs with eggplant chair covers.  Gorgeous centerpieces soared over head in vintage fluted glass vases.  The flowers were some of the most beautiful flowers i have ever seen.  I was swooning.  Lavender and purple hydrangea, deep berry dahlias, lavender mokara orchids, fuschia gloriosa lilies, pale pink peonies...OH MY!!!  We placed a string quartet up on the balcony that was covered with the sari's from the church.  Since they were covered up from the sari's, the beautiful music drifted down during dinner.  Guests weren't sure where the music was coming from. I love that element of surprise.

It was a magical day.  The couple, their families, and their friends were truly amazing.  Everyone had an incredible time. I was floating on cloud 9.  This is why i am so lucky to do what I love for a career.  So i can meet people like Erin and Derrick and make all their dreams come true :)  Enjoy the pictures.

Feature: Jennifer & Eric

[vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]Hi Friends - Check out the Fall/Winter Issue of The Knot Chicago. It features one of my all time favorite weddings in the "Real Wedding" section. We got the biggest spread!  It features the wedding of a darling couple, Jennifer and Eric from L.A.  They were the most wonderful couple to work with and i love how the wedding came together. We used the most decadent colors of Chocolate, Bronze, Deep plums and Fuchsia.  Their Chuppa was to die for.  It was constructed of willow branches and hanging candles.  The wedding ceremony was set in the round at the great RIver East Art Center.  Jennifer works for Mattel, on Barbie. Look at the Barbie her team created to look exactly like her!  Her Hair, dress, jewelry, everything. So darn cool.  We displayed it at the wedding in the bar area.  Have fun and be sure to pick up a copy!
