Vintage Bridgeport Art Center Wedding

[vc_row full_width="" parallax="" parallax_image=""][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_column_text] We are so excited to share this pretty vintage wedding designed by our very own Bliss Beau, Jesse Deckard! Jesse and the lovely couple carefully crafted this beautiful, rustic-meets-modern wedding. The color palette of champagne, lavender, blush and gold, mixed with the industrial-feel of the Bridgeport Art Center, created a stunning scene. The couple especially enjoyed the after party at the Ritz Carlton- complete with 80’s music, Chicago-style dogs, and French fries! See the full feature on The Knot.

Real Wedding: Meghan + Steve

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Meghan & Steve are such a fun and laid-back couple to be around that planning their wedding was a total joy!  When they came to us, they weren’t sure exactly what they wanted for their big day other than great food, beautiful décor and an abundance of personal touches.  When we decided on the Redfield Estate in Glenview for their ceremony and reception, we just knew the gorgeous lush grounds would be the perfect fit for an intimate celebration with both romantic and rustic touches. Even though their ceremony had to be moved indoors at the last minute due to weather, Meghan & Steve remained happy and telling jokes the whole time.  The indoor space for the ceremony turned out to be a beautifully intimate space which we covered in plenty of organic greenery and garland to bring the outdoors in.  Thankfully the weather cleared and guests moved to the courtyard for cocktails where they picked up escort cards placed on individual stems of craspedia set up in a bed of green moss.

Working with a color scheme of soft grey, mustard yellow and clean white, Fleur created laid back florals in a mix of vintage milk glass and turquoise glass placed on grey washed farm tables.   Timeless elegance was added to the tablescape with luxe crystal cut chargers, lace table runners and etched glass stemware.

After a delicious dinner, guests danced the night away taking breaks to snack from the abundant cheese bar or the sprawling sweets table adorned with several types of cake and an array of mini sweets all displayed on vintage cake pedestals.  As a late night surprise for the groom, a custom cigar roller accompanied a cigar & whiskey bar!

Our Favorite Cake Servers

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Here at Bliss we just love to swoon over even the smallest of wedding details (after all sometimes they can be the most fun to shop for!).  Don't let the serving set you use to cut the cake on your wedding day be an after thought especially since it is usually placed front and center in the photos of your cake!  Here is a little round up of some of favorite options:[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="6073" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]1. This little set may look simple, but if you look closer you will see that the handles are engraved with "Mr & Mrs" 2. This gorgeous Sakura serving set BHLDN would be perfect for a garden inspired wedding.

3. Add a little glitz with these gold or silver glitter servers from Leif

4. Vera Wang can do no wrong and these simple grosgrain ribbon inspired servers are a chic partner for any cake!

5. While brand new servers are fabulous- it is always fun to find a one of kind vintage set from places like Etsy or even better- an heirloom from your own families!

Real Wedding: Kristin & Ted

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Renny had the pleasure of planning a wedding this past August for an adorable duo, Kristin and Ted. After saying their I Do’s at the St. James Cathedral, their beyond stunning reception took place at the historical Drake Hotel. Positioned right along Lake Michigan, The Drake Hotel was the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous reception that had hints of a preppy, nautical vibe (not to mention, Ted proposed to Kristin outside the Drake under the gazebo). The décor centered around a classic navy and pink palette with stunning pops of gold as seen through the flowers by Cornelia McNamara, while the table numbers were street names of Chicago that had personal meaning to both Kristin & Ted. The cake was by a local bakery on Oak Street, Sarah’s Candies, and was positioned under the couple’s wedding monogram that hung above the head table. Olivia Leigh Photographie was there to capture all the special moments, we had a hard time choosing them for our blog! Congrats Kristin & Ted!

Real Wedding: Caryn & Leslie

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] This gorgeous tented wedding was set in the backyard of the Bride's parents home in the North Shore Chicago suburb, Glencoe. We transformed their already gorgeous and spacious backyard into a completely swoon-worthy ceremony and reception venue. The soft color palette that included unexpected pops of orange and the rustic touches created a sweet, rustic vibe. Each detail that was planned and coordinated by our very own, Renny Pedersen, had a purpose and place and was carried out with perfection. With threatening skies earlier in the day, we were glad we enlisted the help of the tent professionals, HDO Productions. Beneath the tent were flowers by a local flower shop in Glencoe, Front of the House band got everyone up on their feet that night and Tec Petaja was there to photograph the rain free fete!

Real Wedding: Kristen & Chris

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kristen & Chris's wedding took place at the Dewes Mansion in Lincoln Park, a mansion built in 1896 that earned it's spot on the  prestigious National Register of Historic Places. The intimate ceremony of 50 guests took place on the second level balcony looking over the two-story stain glass window. Following the vows, more friends and family joined the newlyweds enjoying a cocktail hour and passed hor d'oeuvres by the Entertaining Company while taking in the decadence of the mansion's first floor. Guests picked up their personalized mason jars with a tea light to find their table for the evening and headed outside under the cafe lights and tree lined patio. The rustic-inspired reception was an effortless blend of the gorgeous outdoors, the amazing couple and the elegant mansion feel. The sweet, simple centerpieces were put together by Fluer and photos by Gerber & Scarpelli. Cupcake Crawl: Sweet Mandy B's

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="11098" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]

Seeing that it is swimsuit season and all, we tried putting off our next cupcake crawl stop as long as possible. But we quickly folded as we approached the bright pastel colored windows and walls of Sweet Mandy B's in Lincoln Park. This old-fashion bakery lines it's shelves with not only a variety of picture perfect cupcakes but s'mores, candy apples, cookies, puddings, pies, cakes and the list goes on. Stop in for your morning coffee and pair it with a muffin or their homemade granola as well. Whatever it is you stop in for, we guarantee that you come out with much more!!

Cupcake Crawl: Sprinkles!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

I continue the hard task of completing a Chicago Cupcake Crawl with a stop at Sprinkles in the Gold Coast, 50 E. Walton. You can't miss  their 40 foot store front and iconic brown dots. The seven year old cupcake company opened  their Chicago location in the Spring of 2010, and thank goodness! Their  2 x 3 inch cupcake is complete heaven. I treated myself with the Vanilla Milk Chocolate with of course... Sprinkles! I won't taunt you with every detail, but highly recommend you stop by their chic cupcake shop soon! Or wait for their Cupcake ATM to open up in Chicago soon. Yes, you read that correctly!! Check out the founder of Sprinkles, Candace Nelson, interview on The Everygirl blog!

Feature: Kate & Dan

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We are thrilled to be featured on Elizabeth Anne Design's Wedding Blog today!! Kate and Dan's wedding took place this past January at the Ritz Carlton Chicago. The bride was stunning in Vera Wang and Manolo Blahnik heels and the floral arrangements, by Asrai Garden, followed the "English Garden" vibe with fruits, feathers and antlers hidden throughout! The cake was gorgeous (and delicious) draped with pops of green from kiwi and grapes and the most vibrant purple you can imagine! There is not one detail we don't love! Before you head over to Elizabeth Anne's take a look at some more pictures, by photographer Colin Lyons, from their wedding. Congrats Kate & Dan, and a wonderful job to Katie Kozlowski our wedding consultant for this wedding!!

Feature: Donley & Jeff

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We are so thrilled to be featured on Style Me Pretty today! This wedding could not be any more gorgeous. With the beautiful backdrop of the Northwoods of Wisconsin, Donley and Jeff tied the knot at Donley's grandparent's home looking out onto Adler Lake. The wedding progressed through the connecting lakes for the rest of the evening with guests traveling by pontoon boats from place to place. Sigh From Katie Kozlowski: "Donley and Jeff met as swimmers at Emory University and began a 10-year path to their spectacular wedding weekend. With family and friends spanning the globe, they wanted to pick a wedding venue that was personal, meaningful and an opportunity for a reunion. It wasn’t long until they found the perfect spot: The Northwoods of Wisconsin. Donley’s family had gathered here for more than 60 years, on a picturesque beachfront on Adler Lake. Adler Lake connects to a chain of 10 lakes, which prompted the wedding to have a progressive theme… Donley and Jeff were married at Donley’s grandparents home, Deer Haven. A custom chuppah made of local Aspen saplings by the bride’s aunt and uncle and benches carved from local wood adorned the great lawn, overlooking the lake. After the “I Do’s” and a group champagne toast, dozens of pontoon boats pulled up to the ceremony site to transport guests to the next venue: Chippewa Resort, for cocktails. The new Mr. and Mrs. had a personal, vintage getaway boat to travel the Northwoods waters. Following an hour-long cocktail party, the pontoon fleets, freshly loaded with snacks, local beers and champagne, as well as fleece blankets, took guests back on the chain of lakes to the reception, held in a tent on the grounds of Camp Jorn. Countless DIY projects charmed the day, from the invitations and place cards (tiny canoes!) to lanterns and even the centerpieces. Guests dined on local fare, including cutie pies from a local bakery, danced to a popular Chicago DJ and drank in the stars in the spectacular Northwoods. When the tent party was done, guests moved to the Camp Jorn lodge for late night food from local-favorite Culver’s and dancing to a local band."

Cupcake Crawl: Swirlz!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

The cupcake crawl continues! Today we are spotlighting another Lincoln Park gem, Swirlz. Their motto is simple, “Cupcakes Make People Happy”.  And isn’t that the truth? Located at 705 W. Belden, this small cupcake shop is bursting with fabulous little delicacies. Their display case is always fully stocked with the most ridiculous flavors you can imagine and changes daily.  Their menu is a creative one featuring gluten free and vegan options, regular size and minis. Carrot Bourbon Cream Cheese, Chocolate Raspberry Hazelnut Crunch, Banana Nutella, Twixie and Snixie…I recommend just closing your eyes and pointing, you can’t go wrong. I walked out with a Vanilla Espresso this time around! If you can’t make it into their sophisticated bakery, you can find them on the shelves of Whole Foods throughout the Midwest (Impressive!). Their twitter is always boasting with what they have made for the day and an occasional chance to win a few of their masterpieces! I recommend stopping in often at this little cupcake shop or calling an order or two in for your next event or get together! Bon Appétit!

Cupcake Crawl: Molly's Cupcakes

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We've take on the societal duty of finding the best cupcakes of Chicago. We know it won’t be an easy task, but someone’s got to do it!

Our Cupcake Crawl begins at 2536 North Clark in Lincoln Park at Molly’s Cupcakes. The shop has a playful vibe as you walk in with swings to sit on at their bar, and a variety of games that customers play at their tables. They have plenty of unique cupcake creations like ‘The Ron Bennington’, ‘Boston Cream’, Blueberry Cheesecake’ and ‘Cake Batter’ to name a few! And for those that like to stick to what they know, Molly’s offers Classic Flavors of 'Chocolate', 'Vanilla', 'Carrot', 'Banana' and 'Red Velvet'. Once you make the hard decision of which flavor you move on to icing, 'Classic Vanilla' and 'Chocolate', 'Cream Cheese', 'Brown Butter' or 'French Buttercream'. Oy vey! Make your cupcake personal by adding whatever toppings speak to you! And as an added bonus a portion of their profits are donated to schools in the community, in honor of Molly who was a third grade teacher! After much debate, we ordered two of their Classic Flavors, a banana cupcake with classic vanilla frosting and sprinkles and a vanilla cupcake with classic chocolate and the odd choice of gummy bears (the sky’s the limit)! And what more could we ask for? Good news Chicago Brides, they vow to customize your cupcakes with whatever toppings and decorations your little heart desires!

Our first stop on the crawl was a huge success. We recommend you satisfy that inner cupcake craving that lives withing all of us and stop in at Molly’s Cupcake! Bon appétit![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="7029" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_single_image image="7030" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Take a Sneak Peak!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We recently had a photo shoot for our new ad that will be out soon! With all the changes happening at Bliss we needed to throw Katie Kozlowski, our newest senior weddings consultant, into the mix and show everyone what we are all about! Besides, who doesn't love an afternoon of shoes, glitter, cake and champagne? We can't thank Cindy, from Fandl Photography, enough for spending the day with us photographing all our silly antics and costume changes! The delicious pink ombre cake was done by our friends at Alliance Bakery and Cafe, and was delightful until the very last piece (what swimsuit season?)! And our very own, Kara Superfine, used her fabulous floral background to create the gorgeous hot pink bouquet that we are still dying over!

Here's a sneak peak of what will be published soon in bridal magazines galore. We hope you enjoy!

Ombré Obsessed

Ombré is a French term meaning “shaded” and is now currently an obsession of color graduating from light to dark.  Ombré hit the fashion world at full force, gracing the runways at every major show and then salons as it soon became a dying technique with hair, see below. Now it is a wedding detail that we cannot get enough of. From cakes, to flowers, to décor, to dresses, Ombré is a great way to add a little surprise and pop of color to your big day. Dare to Ombré? You be the judge.

Real Wedding: Berkley & Bob

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

As you know, I am a bit behind in posting weddings.  But I am working on it!  There is so much to show you.

I had the true pleasure of working with the gorgeous Berkley and darling Bob last year on their October wedding.    They wanted a grand space, something unique and quintessential CHICAGO!  Well, that is exactly what they got at the spectacular Union Station.

I am sure not many of you have been to a wedding at Union Station - Let alone an event.  Most of you past through there on your way home from work and would never even think twice about it being used in a different way.

They love the architecture, the ceiling,, the height, the grandness and the history. And so did I.

Their ceremony was to be at the beautiful and private Cancer Survivor Gardens in perfect weather.  We had a back up for an indoor ceremony location at the Murphy Auditorium.  They couldn't loose as these are both gorgeous!

It ended up Pouring rain that day, but no one even flinched.  We went to plan B and it was perfection.  This was one of the most "Chicago" weddings I have ever planned.  There was something in the air that day.  I felt like I had stepped back in time almost.  It was magical.

The bride LOVES Black, White and Pink.  We threw in some persimmon orange and some silver to glam it up.

Enjoy the details!

It ended up being a really chilly day. So the day before we ordered 200 Pashminas and offered them at the Ceremony to keep cozy in the Windy City.
