Vintage Bridgeport Art Center Wedding

[vc_row full_width="" parallax="" parallax_image=""][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_column_text] We are so excited to share this pretty vintage wedding designed by our very own Bliss Beau, Jesse Deckard! Jesse and the lovely couple carefully crafted this beautiful, rustic-meets-modern wedding. The color palette of champagne, lavender, blush and gold, mixed with the industrial-feel of the Bridgeport Art Center, created a stunning scene. The couple especially enjoyed the after party at the Ritz Carlton- complete with 80’s music, Chicago-style dogs, and French fries! See the full feature on The Knot.

Real Wedding Teaser - Inspiration Board

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

One of our favorite clients of all time was married this past fall.

The wedding ceremony took place at the super-charming St. Chrysostom’s church, nestled on a residential street in the Gold Coast.  And the reception?  Bliss fave - Chicago History Museum.

JEH had a personal style meant for us.  Layers of J. Crew and accents of Kate Spade – modern updates of classic styles.  When she said she was toying with a color palette of Navy, Fuchsia, Kelly Green and Glittery Gold we thought we would die!

We would be honoured to help bring THAT vision to life!

As a little teaser, we would like to share the inspiration board we created in the early stages of our planning process.  This visual, conceptual tool was used as inspiration for everything from attire to stationary to florals and linens.

Stay tuned to see how the inspiration board came to life this past October!

Real Wedding & One Heck of a Year!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

It was one year ago this week that a favorite Bliss Client married the man of her dreams (truly – they are mad about one another!).

It was a beautiful winter - not exactly wintry - wedding.  And since their big day, Maggie and Tony have already been blessed with a (ridiculously gorgeous) baby girl, Avery.  Because of this, I thought I’d share a few photos from the most glamorous day of their lives.

Maggie and her gaggle of girls dressed at the Ritz Carlton Chicago (also the location of the reception).  Everyone wore coordinating monogrammed button-downs, gifted by the bride, as a comfortable and practical way to relax during the hours of hair and make-up!

Maggie’s beautiful custom dress was designed in collaboration with Mira Couture and featured the bride’s new monogram embroidered in blue.

The ceremony was held at Old St. Pat’s (the oldest standing church in the City – it survived the Chicago fire!) and could easily accommodate the couple’s 300+ besties. The chalice that was used for communion is a special family heirloom given to the bride’s grandparents in Ireland.

The bride wore her great grandmother’s dreamy mink stole to ward off the January breezes.

As the cocktail hour came to an end, The Shannon Rovers lead guests to the ballroom for dinner with a heck-of-a-dramatic parade of drums and bagpipes.

The muted palette of creams, champagnes and mixed metallics provided the perfect wintry setting for Maggie, Tony and their guests.  A combination of linens were used alternately around the room:  rose gold sequins, silver silks as well as silver sequins.  Icy acrylic chairs allowed the special linens do all the talking.

Floral and décor was designed by our very own Jesse Deckard (back in his Event Creative Days).  Going for a snowy-mounded effect, Jesse used monofloral bundles and clouds of gypsophelia (ok, ok, babies breath), Dutch hydrangea and velvety dusty miller foliage.  He also used various crystal and metallic containers and votive cups paired with raw, natural peeling birch bark trunks.

The couple danced to Keith Urban’s You’re Everything, performed by Larry King Orchestra.   Lifesize birch trees were strung with crystals and suspended candles and cornered off the (massive) dance floor (that was packed in mere moments!)

The evening was filled with some seriously sentimental touches ....A truly beautiful and heart-melting toast by the brides other –and original- favorite man: her father, as well as a surprise toast given by the bride’s 27 cousins!

And although Maggie and Tony had visions of fluffy snowflakes creating a swirling snow-globe setting for their January winter wedding, Mother Nature keeps us Chicagoans on our toes and, instead, delivered a few days of unexpected warmth leading up to their celebration.  Instead of snow-boots, the couple’s most necessary accessory ended up being the oversized umbrellas that allowed them to sneak out of their reception for just a few kisses under the twinkling streetlights of Michigan Avenue.

I was so truly and completely honoured to have been a part of this special couple’s planning journey – and I so appreciated witnessing the love, admiration and adoration among their close-knit families as well as one another.  Bliss wishes them the happiest of anniversaries!

Xx Kara

Real Wedding: Meghan + Steve

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Meghan & Steve are such a fun and laid-back couple to be around that planning their wedding was a total joy!  When they came to us, they weren’t sure exactly what they wanted for their big day other than great food, beautiful décor and an abundance of personal touches.  When we decided on the Redfield Estate in Glenview for their ceremony and reception, we just knew the gorgeous lush grounds would be the perfect fit for an intimate celebration with both romantic and rustic touches. Even though their ceremony had to be moved indoors at the last minute due to weather, Meghan & Steve remained happy and telling jokes the whole time.  The indoor space for the ceremony turned out to be a beautifully intimate space which we covered in plenty of organic greenery and garland to bring the outdoors in.  Thankfully the weather cleared and guests moved to the courtyard for cocktails where they picked up escort cards placed on individual stems of craspedia set up in a bed of green moss.

Working with a color scheme of soft grey, mustard yellow and clean white, Fleur created laid back florals in a mix of vintage milk glass and turquoise glass placed on grey washed farm tables.   Timeless elegance was added to the tablescape with luxe crystal cut chargers, lace table runners and etched glass stemware.

After a delicious dinner, guests danced the night away taking breaks to snack from the abundant cheese bar or the sprawling sweets table adorned with several types of cake and an array of mini sweets all displayed on vintage cake pedestals.  As a late night surprise for the groom, a custom cigar roller accompanied a cigar & whiskey bar!

A Tiki Themed Baby Shower

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Guess what that "Events" stands for at the end our company name?!? Thats right- it's for all the other fabulous soirees we plan throughout the year!  This past weekend Renny planned and hosted a baby shower along with a few of her girlfriends for one of their mom-to-be besties, Anne.  We love dreaming up fun and creative baby shower themes, but this one was a total no-brainer given Anne's love of the beach (she had wanted to get married there originally!) and her dream of one day opening a Tiki Bar in Chicago- we just knew we had to do a girly twist on an island Tiki theme! After kicking off the theme with some festive invites from Paperless Post, Renny then called on Blue Plate for the catering, Cheree Berry for adorable paper goods, Hall's for rentals and our own Jesse Deckard to design the florals as well construct the fabulous Tiki Bar from scratch!

Guests enjoyed the gorgeous weather outside while sipping cocktails adorned with paper flags that read "Sleep when the baby sleeps, Drink when the baby drinks!"  Guests then sat down for a tasty tiki themed meal at tables surrounded by grass skirts and topped with colorful glassware as well as fresh tropical fruit and vibrant island inspired florals.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="5893" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/3"][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Fall Wedding Inspiration

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Well its officially Fall as of a few days ago! Pumpkin spice lattes are waking us up every morning, we have been shopping for new boots and pulling out our cozy sweaters from storage (and we have of course been sipping on fall-inspired cocktails!). While we just adore a gorgeous summer day wedding filled with sunshine, there is something special in the air with a fall wedding on a crisp autumn day. Here's some of our favorite fall wedding images currently inspiring us: [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="7130" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]{gorgeous photos surrounded by the changing leaves}[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="7131" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]{a lush fall inspired bridal bouquet}[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="7132" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]{harvest inspired centerpieces of magnolia leaf, pomegranates, garden roses & hibernicum berry}[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="7133" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]{a tasty muddling bar to warm guests up from our inspiration shoot featured on Style Me Pretty right here}[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="7134" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_single_image image="7135" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]{a cake adorned in a rich fall color palette}[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

A 4th of July Fete by Bliss Weddings

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Every year we celebrate our favorite holiday, The Fourth of July, in the quintessential, all-American fashion: Patriotic Picnics in the purest hues of Red, White and Blue. This year, however, we were inspired to celebrate America's birthday by taking a more glamorous, jazzy approach: with sequins (along with our stripes), with mixed metallics (and dazzling sparklers), and vintage cocktails (forget buckets of beer!)

The intimate dinner and fireworks party was held on the rooftop of Katie's charming Lincoln Park home. While we were trading in our madras plaid for floorlength gowns for this celebration, it was essential that we kept the reason for the party in the forefront of our minds and had Fourth-of-July details woven through everything. We added a slightly unexpected twist to the color palette to include mixed metallics of Rose Gold and Bright Gold, Navy Blue and Deep Cherry Red.

The dining table was dressed in a rose gold linen, grazing the rooftop grass it was set upon. Formal china settings included a deco-inspired pattern of gold and white, flanked by bright gold flatware sets. Sugar-dusted cocktails awaited guests at each setting and the few special guests were cued into their seating assignments with a hand-drawn silhouettes in gold foil.

Deep navy planters overflowed with the most magnificent red charm peonies, accented by vintage crystal pedestals mounded with fresh cherries picked up from Chicago's Green City Farmers Market.

With the skyline as the backdrop, our barcart was stocked with the fixin's for some vintage favorites, perhaps you fancy a Gin Rickey, or a South Side, or the Bee's Knees? We also had plenty of blubbly brimming over in our coupes!

The menu was scribed onto a vintage mirror and let guests know that they should not expect coleslaw and potato salad this year!

The celebration continued with the lovely dinner and ended with copious sparklers and a perfect view of the fireworks show.

Happy Fourth of July!

It's Peony Season!!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We look forward to the short springtime peony season every year like it is Christmas!!  We just love seeing those beautiful shades of pink and fuschia peonies pop up at the flower mart (not to mention the luxe look of white peonies!).   These fluffy flowers add such a beautiful touch to a bridal bouquet or a feminine addition to a centerpiece.  Here are few images of peonies that are inspiring us right now - including a little snapshot of the massive peony bouquet we have brightening up the Bliss Weddings Studio currently!

INSPIRED BY: Kate Moss' Boho Flower Girls

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We are still swooning over the images of Kate Moss' romantic bohemian English countryside nuptials.  When a wedding is that beautiful and perfectly executed it's hard to get it out of your head!  We were recently reminded of Kate's entourage of impeccably styled boho flower girls when we opened the most recent email from BHLDN announcing their new Flower Girl dresses.   It is hard to go wrong when selecting a pint-size outfit for your flower girls since they tend to steal to the show at the ceremony (right up until the bride appears of course!), but we suggest going with the timeless ease of a bohemian flowing dress in shades of off white or ivory accessorized by a floral halo crown of course!  [/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/1"][vc_single_image image="5923" border_color="grey" img_link_target="_self" img_size="full"][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Real Wedding: Carey & Matt

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]  Take a look at the stunning Fall wedding of Carey & Matt planned by Renny on October 13th.  The Chicago Illuminating Company served as the venue for both the dramatic and modern ceremony as well as the glamorous reception that had guests celebrating well into the night!  Jeffrey & Julia Woods Photography was on hand to capture every beautiful moment from the stunning couple to all the little personal touches sprinkled throughout the event in the couple's color scheme of rich navy, bright pink, grey and white.  The vibrant colors of Fall were also in full force to set the backdrop for some breathtaking bridal party shots in the courtyard of the Illuminating Company.  Even though it may have sprinkled a little earlier in the day, the weather cleared up just in time for the emotional ceremony set under a dramatic Chuppah created by Event Creative.  Guests were whisked to the cocktail hour in the cozy bar off of the courtyard  and greeted with a pink hued signature cocktail.  Dinner was served under the 40 foot ceilings of the main dining room complete with lucite candelabras and seemingly floating white hydrangea centerpieces adorning the tables.   The beaming couple and their guests then danced the night away only stopping for quick breaks to sit in the glossy white modern victorian lounge set up bordering the dancefloor!   Congrats to Matt & Carey!

Real Wedding: Kristin & Ted

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Renny had the pleasure of planning a wedding this past August for an adorable duo, Kristin and Ted. After saying their I Do’s at the St. James Cathedral, their beyond stunning reception took place at the historical Drake Hotel. Positioned right along Lake Michigan, The Drake Hotel was the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous reception that had hints of a preppy, nautical vibe (not to mention, Ted proposed to Kristin outside the Drake under the gazebo). The décor centered around a classic navy and pink palette with stunning pops of gold as seen through the flowers by Cornelia McNamara, while the table numbers were street names of Chicago that had personal meaning to both Kristin & Ted. The cake was by a local bakery on Oak Street, Sarah’s Candies, and was positioned under the couple’s wedding monogram that hung above the head table. Olivia Leigh Photographie was there to capture all the special moments, we had a hard time choosing them for our blog! Congrats Kristin & Ted!

Real Wedding: Caryn & Leslie

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] This gorgeous tented wedding was set in the backyard of the Bride's parents home in the North Shore Chicago suburb, Glencoe. We transformed their already gorgeous and spacious backyard into a completely swoon-worthy ceremony and reception venue. The soft color palette that included unexpected pops of orange and the rustic touches created a sweet, rustic vibe. Each detail that was planned and coordinated by our very own, Renny Pedersen, had a purpose and place and was carried out with perfection. With threatening skies earlier in the day, we were glad we enlisted the help of the tent professionals, HDO Productions. Beneath the tent were flowers by a local flower shop in Glencoe, Front of the House band got everyone up on their feet that night and Tec Petaja was there to photograph the rain free fete!

Real Wedding: Kristen & Chris

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Kristen & Chris's wedding took place at the Dewes Mansion in Lincoln Park, a mansion built in 1896 that earned it's spot on the  prestigious National Register of Historic Places. The intimate ceremony of 50 guests took place on the second level balcony looking over the two-story stain glass window. Following the vows, more friends and family joined the newlyweds enjoying a cocktail hour and passed hor d'oeuvres by the Entertaining Company while taking in the decadence of the mansion's first floor. Guests picked up their personalized mason jars with a tea light to find their table for the evening and headed outside under the cafe lights and tree lined patio. The rustic-inspired reception was an effortless blend of the gorgeous outdoors, the amazing couple and the elegant mansion feel. The sweet, simple centerpieces were put together by Fluer and photos by Gerber & Scarpelli. We hosted an amazing baby shower for one of our very own here at Bliss. The nautical themed baby shower took place under a cabana in Renny's backyard. All 20 guests sat beneath the navy and white gathered fabric tied with yellow chevron tie backs at a long feasting table dressed in heavy white hemstitch linens, a custom made yellow chevron runner, yellow chevron napkins, vintage basketweave chargers, etched glassware, heirloom mixed flatware and nautical coasters.
